Labour's environment policy up in flames

Cllr Mark Pattenden calls for more recycling and re-use rather than burning

The government's plans to expand the burning of household waste is a massive missed opportunity to increase recycling says Cllr Mark Pattenden (Eltham South).

"Incinerators cause their own problems or dirt and pollution," added Cllr Pattenden. "Greenwich already burns nearly 80% of household waste. That's four times as much as we recycle."

"The government should be concentrating on minimising waste, promoting recycling and encouraging re-use. Simply switching to burning rather than landfill is failing to address the issue."
