Local small businesses are drowning in a sea of unnecessary rules and regulations says Greenwich West Liberal Democrat and local business owner Suzanne Miller. She welcomed the motion passed at the Liberal Democrat conference in Brighton last week aimed at reducing the burden of regulation.
Suzanne said:
"592 new regulations have been added since 1997. It's about time the government stopped imposing new rules and started repealing old ones.
"Local businesses are penalised for improving themselves - for example if they install CCTV to improve security, they have to pay more in business rates!
"I am pleased that the Lib Dems want to ease the burden of regulation."
