Greenwich Liberal Democrat councillors have expressed their concern over plans that could involve closing key roads in the borough for up to two months ahead of the London Olympics in 2012.
Councillor Brian Woodcraft, leader of the Lib Dem group, said "We are pleased that the Olympics are coming to London and have supported the Games all the way through. However we must accept that for many residents in Greenwich life will go on during the Games. We must ensure that the disruption caused is kept to a minimum."
Recent reports have indicated that key roads in the borough such as Trafalgar Road and the Blackwall Tunnel could be closed for up to two months before the Olympics and restricted to "Olympic-related traffic.
Cllr Woodcraft concluded "We accept that safety and security may lead to some disruption during the Games themselves. However closing the Blackwall Tunnel to local traffic for long periods would be totally disproportionate."
