Labour has let down our children by cutting back on the amount of sport in Greenwich schools, says Leonie Barron, Liberal Democrat candidate for the Plumstead by-election.
"We are lucky in Plumstead to have woods, commons and parks in abundance; however the Council could be doing far more to promote good health, particularly in the area of sport and exercise.
"I was shocked to see that 22% of schoolchildren in Greenwich do under two hours' sport each week at school when the government is recommending five hours sport a week, both in and out of school.
"I will campaign to put more sport on the school curriculum in a way that engages children of all abilities. A bottom-up approach which aims to get everyone involved is ultimately the one which will produce the Olympic athletes, too."
