A recent report from the Audit Commission has found that progress in reducing crime in Greenwich had been below the average in London.
It also rated community safety arrangements in Greenwich as "fair", that is the third highest of four possible categories.
Liberal Democrat councillor Paul Webbewood said "The Audit Commission also found that although there was a lot of work in progress and a lot of money being spent, there was no proper way of determining whether this activity actually helped to reduce crime or whether the money was well used.
Cllr Webbewood added "While the report is not entirely negative, it is disappointing overall. It is no wonder that the Labour council leadership have tried to bury it, with no mention on the Council's website or in its own newspaper Greenwich Time.
"The council has an obligation to local residents to improve community safety. This will involve less spin and more action."
