London Mayor Boris Johnson demonstrated again last week that he doesn't care about South East London after he cancelled plans to build the Greenwich Waterfront Transit.
This scheme, which would have linked Abbey Wood, Woolwich and the Greenwich Peninsula, had already been downgraded significantly from the original plans for a tram system.
Cancellation of the Greenwich Transit scheme comes hot on the heels of other transport plans in the local area that Boris Johnson has cancelled, such as:
Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson on the London Assembly commented:
"Residents in Greenwich, Woolwich and Thamesmead badly need rapid and comfortable public transport to get from home to railheads link Woolwich Arsenal and North Greenwich. The Transit scheme has been cut back from tram to guided bus to a pretty ordinary bus and now axed altogether. Labour and Tory Mayors have treated Greenwich with contempt."
Greenwich Liberal Democrat spokesman Mark Pattenden said:
"One year after being elected, Greenwich is still waiting to see anything positive from Boris Johnson. All we have seen is that the Tories can't be trusted to stand up for Greenwich."
