Greenwich Lib Dems have welcomed the proposals approved by the Lib Dem conference to scrap the failing rail franchise system and replace it with one that puts passengers first.

Local party member Mark Pattenden commented:
"Rail passengers in Greenwich and across Britain put up with some of the most expensive fares in Europe. On Southeastern Trains fares are set to rise above inflation again this year, more than anywhere else in the country.
"We need a rail transport system that puts passengers first not profits."
