Greenwich Borough Liberal Democrats are pleased to announce their prospective Parliamentary candidates for the 2010 General Election:

Alex Cunliffe (Erith & Thamesmead)

Alex Cunliffe is a 32 years of age and lives in Greenwich. As a lawyer and a member of Liberty, he has a strong interest in protecting individuals from the abuse of state power and has concerns the way the justice system is run in the UK. Alex is a School Governor in his area and is interested in the benefits a focused education can bring as well as the failures of the secondary education system and constant testing.

He is married to Eliane and they have a young daughter.

Joseph Lee (Greenwich & Woolwich)

Joseph Lee, aged 26, is a Director of a London estate agency. Of Jamaican descent, he has worked closely with the Ethnic Minority Liberal Democrat (EMLD) group to use his own background and experience to engage young BME people in the political process. He also leads on Youth Affairs for the EMLD.

Dr Steven Toole (Eltham)

Steven, aged 37, lives in Plumstead with his partner Samantha.

Steve has worked a campaigner for a transport safety charity (PACTS), and as the Liberal Democrats' adviser on environment and transport issues. He has worked on developing the party's policies on tackling climate change, high speed rail and improving local transport, water resources, reducing waste and increasing recycling.

Since leaving this role Steve has worked in policy and communications, first for a national environmental trade association and at present managing the policy and public affairs team for a learned society working on a range of environmental and education issues.

Denys Robinson, Chair of the Greenwich Borough Liberal Democrats said:

"We need a new fresh Parliament committed to fairness. Joseph, Steve and Alex belong to a younger generation of politics with clean hands and new ideas, looking forward to the future. They have energy and enthusiasm, and bring business, legal and professional experience to the Liberal Democrat campaign."
