Steven Toole Pledges to be Voice for Nature in next Parliament

April 17, 2010 12:00 AM

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Eltham Dr Steven Toole has given his wholehearted support to the RSPB's 'Letter to the Future', pledging to be a strong voice for the UK and Eltham environment in the next Parliament.

The pledge sets out six key areas for action on the natural environment in the next Parliament, all of on which the Liberal Democrats have a strong set of policies:

1. Taking action to ensure that future generations inherit a countryside rich in wildlife.

2. Taking action to ensure that a comprehensive network of marine protected areas is established

3. Taking action to ensure that threatened species are not lost forever.

4. Taking action to ensure the UK plays it part in saving tropical forests.

5. Taking action, both nationally and internationally, to stop climate chaos.

6. Taking action to create more opportunities for all young people to be inspired through nature.

Commenting, Steven said: "Protecting the natural environment is something I take very seriously, having worked in jobs relating to environmental matters for more than ten years. Decisions that politicians make will have major implications for the health of our natural environment and the well-being future generations.

"Unfortunately, previous Labour and Tory Governments have failed to give the issue the attention it urgently needs. The Liberal Democrats have a long standing record of treating these issues with the seriousness they deserve"
