The May 2005 General Election result in Eltham

Ian has lived in Greenwich Borough since 1991 after graduating in History from the University of Wales, Bangor and then taking a teacher training course at UEA, Norwich. He was born and brought up in Cheshire, where most of his family still live. This also explains his bizarre support for Northwich Victoria FC!
Ian has worked at a state comprehensive school in New Cross since 1991 and is currently Head of History and Head of House. In addition, he has represented the party on Greenwich Council since May 2002 and, somewhat unsurprisingly, is the Education Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrat Group on the Council. His own experiences of state education as a pupil and teacher have reinforced his opposition to the proposed introduction of University tuition 'top-up' fees. He says that this policy "threatens to deny University education from the poorest members of our society, which is unjust and unfair".
He is a strong advocate for public transport and is campaigning to see improved public transport links for the constituency, particularly a bus route to link Eltham and North Greenwich tube station more directly.
In his spare time, Ian is a keen reader and follows a wide range of sports, participating with varying degrees of incompetence. He is also a member of a local amateur dramatics group, the College Park Players and directs the annual Opera at his school.
