The May 2005 General Election result in Erith & Thamesmead

Dr Steven Toole was born in Ashington, Northumberland and grew up in North Yorkshire (Norton and York). He was educated in York, the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (BA Hons Geography) and at the University of Wales, Swansea (PhD in Geography) which included six months spent working within the Caribbean (Barbados).
Whist completing his PhD Steve worked as a tutor in Geography and then moved to London to become a research fellow at the University of Westminster. He also worked a campaigner for a transport safety charity (PACTS) before becoming the adviser to the Liberal Democrat parliamentary party on environment and transport issues. Steve, who has lived in the constituency for three years, achieved an 8% swing from Labour when he stood in the Plumstead council by-election of 2003.
Steve, who has a lifelong interest and experience in environmental matters, is a keen cyclist. His other interests include watching football, playing guitar and songwriting, and going to comedy, theatre, gigs and music festivals.
