When the London Liberal Democrats Conference came to Greenwich last Autumn, a motion supporting free school meals for students was unanimously voted for. Since then, support for free school meals has been championed by Liberal Democrats across London: our GLA members scrutinised the Mayor to make sure that schools could and would take up free school meals funding; Southwark Liberal Democrats called for an extension of the Mayor’s plans; and, now, Greenwich’s own Member of Youth Parliament, Timi Jibogu, has called for Greenwich Council to give free school meals for all students in the Borough taking exams this summer.
Late last week, soon after Timi approached us, the Greenwich Borough Liberal Democrats worked quickly to lend our support to Timi’s commendable campaign. Pictured here is our Youth and Student Officer and Eltham PPC, Ulysse Abbate, alongside Timi, delivering our letter directly to Councillors Okereke and Morrow at the Woolwich Town Hall. We are looking forward to a reply from the Greenwich Council and hope that they immediately begin investigating the possibility of offering these free school meals.
